Una was born in Charleston, the youngest of five girls born to the late David Ray and Lynn Coleman Stone. She was also preceded in death by her husband, her "buddy", of 54 years, Earle M. Giesey; their daughter, Martha Evelyn; and sisters Mary Grace Richardson, Ethel Adams, and Linnie Mae Varian.

Although involved in the community in many ways, the activity which brought the most joy was Special Olympics. They were largely responsible for building SO into the thriving program it is today. They were named WVSO Outstanding Family of the Year in 1985 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.
Una was a longtime member of Dunbar First Presbyterian Church where she stayed very busy serving on various committees; most recently the Worship Committee. She was also a leader in the Presbyterian Woman and a member of the Handbell Choir. She was famous for her Communion bread and deviled eggs. Una also enjoyed baking cookies to share with her girls and the post office. One of her favorite past times was rooting for her Kentucky Wildcats.
