Velma "Jean" Cobb-Carnes, 84, of Charleston passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016.
Jean was born in Middlesboro, KY to William & Elsie Hale Cobb and was the eldest of 6 siblings. She graduated from Middlesboro HS. She moved to Charleston after marrying the love of her life Kermit K Carnes Sr. in 1950. She graduated from the Charleston school of commerce in 1957. Jean worked for many years as a bookkeeper. In her later years she was a CNA for CAMC Strategic health.
She loved the elderly & little Children. She was a member of Starcher Baptist Church since 1969 where she was a Deaconess, Sunday School teacher and member of the choir. She was also a member of the eastern star 131 South Charleston since 1963.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit K Carnes Sr.; granddaughter, Rachel Carnes; brother, Vernon Claude Cobb; son-n-law, Stanley Lawrence Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Young Carnes.
She is survived by sons, Kermit II (Kelly) of Red House, Timothy Sr. of N. Charleston, and Richard of Culloden and Rodney of Dunbar; adopted sons, Rocky Pourfarhadi and Moe Pourfarhadi; daughters, Carol Lawrence of Cross Lanes and Marcie Carnes of Charleston; brother, Homer Cobb Sr. (Sharon); sisters, Myrtle Meadows (Hubert), Joyce Jeffers (Brent) and Barbara Bobbitt. She has 13 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20 at Starcher Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Moore Jr and Rev. David Workman officiating.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Starcher Baptist Church.
Interment will follow the funeral at Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens with Paul Lawrence officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Starcher Baptist Church. The family wishes to thank HospiceCare and the staff of OakRidge Nursing Facility.
