Verda Jane Pierce, 81, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at WVU Medicine —Thomas Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on May 27, 1945, Verda was the beloved daughter of the late Charles Foster and Elizabeth “Pinky” Pullen. She was also preceded in death by her devoted husband, Lawrence Edward Pierce, which whom she shared Nearly 50 years of marriage.
A proud graduate of East Bank High School’s Class of 1965, Verda dedicated her life to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—tending to her garden, preparing meals for those she loved, and enjoying her favorite television programs. Her gentle spirit, unwavering love, and selfless devotion to her family left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Verda’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her loving sons, Larry Pierce (Rose) of Dunbar, Cameron Pierce of South Charleston, Michael Pierce (Jamie) of Dunbar, and Brian Pierce (Tiffany) of Charleston.
She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren, Christoper, Cassie, Jasmine, Cyara, Aleasecia, Cyten, and Kaylee, as well as numerous great-grandchildren who brought endless laughter, pride, and happiness to her life.
Verda’s legacy is one of unconditional love, unwavering strength, and selfless devotion to her family. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and the comfort she brought to those around her. She was also known for her spicy personality, quick wit, and feisty sense of humor that could brighten any room and keep those around her on their toes. Whether through a home-cooked meal, a caring word, or the love she freely gave, Verda touched the lives of many. While her presence will be deeply missed, the cherished memories she created and the love she shared will live on forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, medical staff, and employees of WVU Medicine — Thomas Memorial Hospital for the exceptional care, compassion, and support shown to Verda and her loved ones. Your kindness during her final days will never by forgotten.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday June 19, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor Brian Hughes officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
Friends may visit two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
