Obituary

Viola Jividen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to the many who knew her, passed away peacefully at her home on November 2, 2014.
.
Viola was born on February 29, 1940, the eldest child of the late Hiawatha and Grethel Broyles.

She was a lifelong resident of Dunbar.

She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Leighton Jividen, the centerpiece of her wonderful life and universe; sons, Terry Jividen and Thomas Jividen; daughters, Tammy Jividen, Tawnya Jividen, Trina Jividen, Tracy Haynes; son-in-law, Daniel Haynes; 12 loving grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, who brought tremendous joy to her life; brother, Hiawatha Broyles, Jr.; brother in law, Richard Jividen; sister-in-law, who was more of a sister, Jodie Jividen, who provided tremendous love, support and caregiving and is truly appreciated by her entire family.

She was formerly employed by Union Carbide.

The following poem, written by her daughter, Tawnya, captures the essence of her meaningful life:

"You were but a child yourself when your first of six was born
But you mastered the art of motherhood knowing instinctively all there was to learn
You sacrificed a carefree youth and chose a different path in life
Your time was spent nurturing children; your role-devoted mother, loving wife
Instead of dresses you bought diapers, so few luxuries did you own
You worked with great determination to give us all a happy home
When injury befell us or when sickness was at hand
Our initial reaction was always "Mom", we knew you'd advise and understand
The values that you taught us came from deeds much more than words
We watched you care for infants and hand-feed baby birds
Only does a Mother give expecting nothing in return
We hope we made it worth it for all the burdens you have borne
And on this day and every day we give our love to you
And pray we brought you happiness; our Mother who we adored"

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 4 at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar for family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to Kanawha Charleston Humane Association Animal Shelter, 1248 Greenbrier St, Charleston, WV 25311.
