Virginia Ruth Riffle, 89, of Charleston went to be with her heavenly Father on Thursday, February 3, 2011, at Belle's Assisted Living in St. Albans.
Virginia was born to Rebecca and Bailey Skidmore, November 28, 1921, in Gassaway. She graduated from Gassaway High School and from there went to Washington, D.C. to work as a nurse's aide during World War II. She loved her job and friends of 32 years at Thomas Memorial Hospital where she was supervisor of the blood bank. After her retirement, Virginia enjoyed needlepoint and volunteering at the hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick J. Riffle; sister, Orpha Smith; brothers, Harlin, Brany, Roy, and Fay Skidmore.
Mrs. Riffle is survived by sister, Ruby Bailey; sons, James Riffle, David Riffle both of Charleston; daughter, Marsha (John ) Duncan of Dunbar; grandchildren, Cathryn (Mario) Carena, Christy (Sam) Rife, Nora Rose Riffle, Krista (Jeff) Black; great grandchildren, Jacob Rife, Cai Carena, Gea Carena, Seldon Rife, Duncan MacMaster.
The family wishes to thank Mary B. Daily and staff at Belle's Assisted Living for their loving care of our mother.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 6, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor John Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
