Obituary

Wailand Carl Figgatt, 73, a lifelong resident of Tyler Mountain, passed away on December 10, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born March 2, 1937, he was the oldest child and only son of the late Carl H. Figgatt, who preceded him in death in September of 1978, and the late Mary Cordelia Figgatt who preceded him in death in June of 2010 at the age of 106. He was a member of Brown United Methodist Church.

He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1955, attended West Virginia Wesleyan, and received a Business degree from West Virginia State College in 1961. He entered military service as a commissioned officer in the US Army and ultimately served in Korea. He was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. Carl worked alongside his father as a Real Estate Salesman/Broker, Rental Property Manager and on the family farm, taking care of the land and various farm animals. He went to work for Columbia Gas Transmission and retired in 1995 as a Supervisory Accountant with 27 years of service, then devoted full time to his rental properties until his death.

We will miss Carl's sense of humor, his "dad jokes": the dry one liners, his insatiable curiosity, his ability and willingness to fix anything, and his devotion and love of home and family.

Carl was the devoted husband of 37 years to wife Karen. A proud father to his sons: Christopher (Aimee) of Teays Valley, Kevin (Molly) of Frazier's Bottom. He was the loving and doting father to daughter Kimberly Henson (George) of Buffalo.

In 2004, Kimberly & George blessed Carl & Karen with their first grandchildren, twins Kaleb and Jada Henson. In 2007 Kevin & Molly delighted them with yet another grandchild, Tanner Figgatt. 2009 brought youngest granddaughter Maiya Henson. The marriage of Christopher and Aimee in 2007 brought oldest grandson Matthew Adkins into the family.

Carl is also survived by and will be deeply missed by his sister, Hilda and her husband Jay Giffin of Sissonville; nephew, Craig Giffin of Sissonville; niece, Kristi (Todd) Eilerman along with great nieces, Kaitlynn and Kassandra Eilerman of Findlay, Ohio; uncle, Alva (Beulah) Riffee of Woodrum's Lane, brothers-in- law, Eddie (Jeanne) Gillespie of Winfield, and David (Mary) Gillespie of South Charleston and family; niece, Cheri (Ron) Hayes of Katy, Texas and great nieces, Oksana Hayes Remarenko of Barcelona, Spain, Tatiana Hayes Peterson, Heather, Jenna and Sophie Hayes, great nephew Eric Hayes, and great great niece, Hailey Peterson, all of Katy, Texas, and many other relatives, friends and church family.

Visitation for friends and family will be Monday, December 13, 6 to 8 p.m. at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

Service will be at Keller Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 14, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Herman Jones, a close family friend, officiating. Burial will follow the service at Grandview Memorial Park Veteran's section.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Joseph Mouchizadeh of Greenbrier Valley Urology Associates, Dr. Bashir Sankari, The Cleveland Clinic Urology Center, the caring staff of CAMC General 3 South and 5 South, and the angels at Hospice for their loving care of Carl during his final week at home.
