Obituary

Walter Leland Wagner, Jr., 81, of Dunbar passed away peacefully after several years of illness on August 16, 2013.

Born September 4, 1931 he was the son of the late Ruth Elliott Wagner and Walter Leland Wagner Sr., also preceding him in death was his brother Elliot "Bill" Wagner and his wife, Dorothy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty; daughters, Kathie McCroskey and her husband, Jeff of Amma, WV and Michelle Flanagan and Husband Rodger of Jonesborough, TN; He is survived by his grandchildren, Chelsea McCroskey, Carri and Leland Flanagan; his brother, Stanley, and his wife, Gloria of Richmond, VA.; along with many, many special nieces, nephews, and friends. The family also appreciates the care given to him throughout his illness by our friend and neighbor Reca Holstein.

He was a graduate of Dunbar High School, WVU, and WVU College of Law. He served in the military during the Korean War, receiving training at H. Monmouth, NJ and then stationed at the American Depot in Saumur, France for three years. He retired as Captain and returned to the US to pursue his love of law.

He returned to Dunbar in 1962 and opened his law office, practicing there for 46 years, and retiring in 2008 because of ill health. He served a term as city judge, became a member of the Dunbar Lion's Club, The Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #133, The Masonic Lodge #159, and a 32 degree of the Scottish Rite.

Walt was a man who never met a stranger. He loved being with his family, fishing, scuba diving, hunting with friends, and going to WVU football weekends. He was a very dedicated attorney, caring for the needs of his clients.

Visitation will be held at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Dunbar at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Reverend Patricia Jarvis officiating. Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
