Wilda Faye Sargent Young

Wilda Faye Sargent Young, 88, of Anderson, IN, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Born in Dunbar, WV to Wilmer and Oma Sargent, Wilda grew up to graduate from Dunbar High School in 1955. She then went on to become an airline stewardess for Braniff Airlines in Wichita, Kansas and there met the love of her life- Dick Young. The two were married in June of 1960. She went on to graduate from Anderson College with an elementary education degree, then went on to get her master’s from Ball State. She taught in Anderson, Indiana until her retirement. Although, Wilda never had children of her own, she was team mom to all of Dick’s teams, another mom to all of her students, a loving and spoiling aunt to all her nieces and nephews.

She and Dick loved to travel with Anderson University, their friends and family. In all, they were blessed to visit all seven continents, and 54 countries. She attended Park Place Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmer and Oma Sargent; her brothers, Check Sargent and Kenny Sargent and his wife Mary; her sisters, Helen Spencer and her husband Richard, Joyce Fizer and her husband Dan, and Elaine Merrifield. And, her loving husband of 62 years, Dick.

Surviving Wilda are her sisters, Wanda Mynes and Loretta Jividen, and her sister-in-law Dolores Sargent, along with many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to English Meadows staff for their care these last four years.

A service for Wilda will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 29 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor Megan Cloninger officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

Family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
