William Frederick
Borchert
June 26, 1947 – January 29, 2024
William Frederick Borchert, 76, of Cross Lanes, WV took his last breath surrounded by family after struggling with dementia.
William was born to the late Florence Pauline Borchert and late Edward Frederick Borchert on June 26, 1947 in Cleveland, OH.
Bill graduated from Kingwood High School, later attaining an associates degree from the University of Charleston. Immediately following high school, he enlisted in the Air Force for four years. Bill proudly served as Sergeant for the Preston County Sheriff Department for a number of years. He served and devoted his life as Supply Sergeant in the 201st Field Artillery for 25 years in the Army National Guard where he lovingly earned the nickname "Sarge". Before going into retirement , Bill enjoyed driving for Advance Auto Parts for 15 years. During Bill's life, he filled his time with golfing, basketball, boating, and watching planes. He had volunteered as President of the 201st memorial, held multiple posts for the 548th VFW, and was a firefighter in Brookhaven's volunteer fire department. Among all of Bill's accomplishments, he never wavered as a fan of the WVU Mountaineers, bleeding blue and gold until the end.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his two older brothers, Bob Gainer and James E. Borchert; and nephew, Kurt F. Borchert.
He is survived by his wife, Christine A. Borchert of Cross Lanes; son, Jason B. Cook; daughter, Tiffany D. Borchert; grandson, Maximus A. Cook; along with many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank those who had the pleasure of caring and aiding William Borchert, especially those of Glasgow Nursing and Rehab for making him comfortable over the last couple of years.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6 at Cross Lanes Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Donal C. Kinnard Memorial State Veteran's Cemetery.
Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
