William Franklin
Chambers
July 15, 1941 – April 27, 2014
On April 27, 2014 God called home the best Papaw in the world, William Franklin "Frank" Chambers of Dunbar. Born on July 15, 1941, he was a lifelong resident of Dunbar. Frank passed away at the Cleveland Clinic after a short illness.
He was proud of his transplanted lung he received at Cleveland Clinic on June 8, 2010, and the family is forever grateful to the donor.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elsie Chambers; and his brother, Kennon Chambers.
He is survived by his devoted wife of over 50 years, Sharon Tucker Chambers; and his three children, Franklin Scott Chambers and wife Dee Dee, Cherie Chambers Cowder and former husband Ash Cowder, and Kennon Tucker Chambers and wife Meredith Zuspan; he also leaves behind five precious grandchildren, Ryan Franklin Chambers, Alison MacKenzie Chambers, Aria Sharon Cowder, Julia Rose Chambers and William Kennon Chambers; brother, Richard Chambers, and his wife, Glena and their family, his brother Kennon's family; many other relatives and numerous close friends are also mourning his passing.
Frank is retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital and he also worked in construction for many years. He was always involved in community activities including the Kanawha Putnam Emergency Planning Committee, and served the City of Dunbar as a former councilman as well as being a current member of the Sanitary Board.
Frank was a member of Cross Lanes Baptist Church where he served on a variety of committees and loved to go on mission trips. He was formerly a member of Dunbar First Baptist church since he was very young.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Cross Lanes Baptist Church with Pastor Seth Polk officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Cross Lanes Baptist Church.
Flowers are welcome,but donations may be made to Cross Lanes Baptist Church Missions, 108 Cadle Dr., Cross Lanes, WV 25313 as well as to the Center for Organ Recovery and Education at www.core.org.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
