William "Bill" Shirley Darnell, 88 of Griffithsville, passed away on January 30, 2022 at Hospice House at CAMC after a short illness.

He was born on July 24, 1933 to the late John Darnell and Mary Shrout Martin.

Bill was a member of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He retired as a postman from the U.S. Postal Service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Darnell; and his son, Jeffrey Darnell.

Bill is survived by his sons, David Darnell, Steve Darnell (Joni), Ronald Darnell (Lynette); daughter-in-law, Mary Darnell; grandchildren, Kristen Redman (Shane), Ashley Wright (Thomas), Amy Cunningham (Justin), Steve and Tori Darnell; great-grandchildren, Gaige Searls, Shayna, Piper and Tyler Redman, Audrey Wright, and Beatrice Cunningham.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar, with Rev. Cliff Thaxton officiating.

Friends may visit from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House at CAMC Memorial Hospital, 3200 MacCorkle Ave SE, Charleston, WV 25304.
