William "Bill" Edward Ray, 64, of Sissonville passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Bill was born November 26, 1958 to Betty Ann (Johnson) and the late Raymond Edward Ray. Bill was a 1977 graduate of Sissonville High School and a 1981 graduate of West Virginia State College.

Bill was passionate about all things music, and dedicated his life to sharing that joy with others. After 37 years as a music educator, Bill retired from the Kanawha County Board of Education. He was currently employed by Dunbar United Methodist Church as the Music Director, and often gave private music lessons to students.

Bill also enjoyed golfing, deer hunting, and following the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was an active member of Dunbar United Methodist Church. Bill firmly believed that anyone could either sing or play an instrument, and he never met a stranger.

Bill is preceded in death by his father, Raymond Ray, and grandparents, Aubrey and Ada Johnson and Charles and Ruby Ray.

Bill is survived by his mother, Betty Ann Ray; his loving wife of 31 years, Terri (Dempsey) Ray; son, Aaron Ray (Jessica); daughter, Lindsey Redden (Austin); brother, Steve Ray; and grandchildren, Sofia, Piper, and Clara.

Bill is also survived by his parents-in-law, Jim and Patty Dempsey; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Tiffany Dempsey; nephew, Jacob; nieces, Emily and Katie; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, students and friends. The family also includes their dog, Sadie, who brought joy and companionship to Bill's life.

Bill's loss will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Dunbar United Methodist Church with Rev. Jarrod Caltrider and Pastor Jim Dempsey officiating.

Friends may visit the family two hours prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Dunbar United Methodist Church Choir at 1401 Myers Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064.
