William Fred McClain, 74, of Dunbar, was called home by the Lord on Thursday, October 7, 2021.
He was born on December 9, 1946 in Charleston, to the late Archie and Hildred McClain.
Freddie graduated from Dunbar High School and served in the U.S. Army and later graduated from barber college. He retired from Union Carbide in 1992. He also retired from West Virginia State University. Freddie continued to work as a barber for more than 50 years.
He loved all sports, especially football and basketball. The Cleveland Browns were his favorite football team and the Los Angeles Lakers were his favorite basketball team.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Archie McClain Jr.; and his sisters, Barbara Smith and Sue Coleman.
Freddie is survived by his daughter, Annetta M. McClain of Southfield, MI; sister, Launia Tatum of Dunbar; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; his long time companion, Maryland E. Mosley of Dunbar; his "honorary" daughter, Angel R. Mosley of Dunbar; "honorary" great-granddaughter, Tamia R. Megginson of Cross Lanes; a host of "honorary" grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, October 15, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Rev. Shelly Bausley officiating. Burial will follow in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
The family requests the masks be worn at all times.
God will link the broken chain, as one by one we meet again. In our hearts he will always stay, loved and remembered every day.
