Obituary

William Lonzoe Nixon "Nick" or "Buddy" was called home to the Lord on December 12, 2021.

William, who was affectionately known by family as "Buddy", or by friends as "Nick" was born on April 24, 1949 in Charleston to the late Will and Carrie Nixon.

He graduated from Dunbar High School in the Class of 1968. Buddy participated in football, track and wrestling during his childhood and teenage years. He was also Black Belt in Karate. After graduating from high school, Buddy attended West Virginia State College, where he eventually obtained employment. He often said he wished he had continued his education and graduated from State.

Buddy was employed by West Virginia State College for close to 30 years as he worked on the grounds crew. He loved planting flowers and bushes on campus and would often plant them in the neighborhood for friends and family. One of the things he often spoke about was how much he loved talking to the students on campus that were from different countries. He really enjoyed their stories and he loved the different accents they had. Buddy also worked for "In a Minute Delivery Company", when they expanded into grass cutting; after he retired from West Virginia State College. He especially loved the autonomy and freedom of working outdoors and doing it on any opportunity he could before he lost his eyesight.

He loved the Lord and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev Franklin Murphy, Sr. He also became a member of Ferguson Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev E. A. Heyliger.

Buddy's interest were music, he was a very good singer in his day. Taekwondo, he was a Black Belt, helping people in his neighborhood and sitting at the corner store with the fellas catching up on neighborhood news. His number one interest was watching the Pittsbrug Steelers play football on Sunday. Buddy was their number one fan. He enjoyed putting a smile on people's faces while spending time with his family and friends. Buddy was a helpful soul who never met a stranger. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed by many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Nixon; nephews, Robert Johnson, Barry Johnson, Chase Carter, James Carter and DeAndre Woods.

Buddy is survived by his son, Eric Nixon; Eric's mother, Pam Nixon; sisters Nancy Jones, Ella Carter, Valerie Nixon, Edith Hall (Preston), Wilma (his twin) and Kaye Hoston (Arnett); and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friend who he cherished and loved dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
