William Robert Richardson, of Nitro, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 4, 2016 in Roanoke, Va., following a tragic kayaking accident.
Bob's favorite pastime was kayaking on the Greenbrier River. He loved the outdoors. Bob was a volunteer at the Nitro Senior Center and enjoyed playing pool with his many friends. Other pastimes included playing pinochle, hunting, fishing and gardening. Bob was a woodworker and created many items for family and friends.
He was a member of the Operating Engineers and was honored as a 50-year member of the IUOE. Bob served his country in the United States Army. He attended Nitro Church of God and loved his church family.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Smith; father, Roy Richardson and grandson, Joey Boggess.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jantina Richardson; daughters, Jill Richardson, Donna Jean Kay and her husband, Billy, and Bobbie Duppstadt, all of Teays Valley; sisters, Jean Dent of St. Albans, Jill Lemaster of Winfield, Karen Bailey and her husband, Mike, of Nitro, Sharon Persinger and her husband, Charles, of Santee, S.C.; and three grandsons. Also surviving, is a special nephew who was like a son, Brian St. Clair, his wife, Shelly, and son, Jameson and very special friend, Louise Mondy; several other nieces, nephews and many friends; and his beloved dogs, Ivy and Shyanne.
Service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor Rob Vanfosson officiating. Entombment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
