William "Willie" Clinton Childs

William "Willie" Clinton Childs, 72, of Charleston, WV, passed away at Hubbard Hospice House on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Charleston, WV, to the late Ann J. Childs and Dennis Brooks on May 13, 1954, and later resided in Charlotte, NC.

William received an education from Charleston High School, as well as graduating from West Virginia State University in 2005.

William served in the U.S. Army in California before returning home and working for DuPont and the City of Charleston. He was proud of his 28 years of sobriety with the loving support of his AA community. He enjoyed fishing, crocheting, riding his bike, and spending time with his cat,Tucker.

William was preceded in death by his mother Ann; sister, Cathy Childs; sister, Margaret Childs; former partner, Laurie Ann Carnes; as well as his son, William Joseph Auger Childs.

Those left to cherish his memories are his son, Quincey Childs; daughters, Michelle Jones (Fabian), Cassandra (Cassie) Childs, and Gabrielle Childs (Joshua); sister, Denise Davis (Elias); brothers, Tommy Childs and Greg Dennis; girlfriend and caregiver, Cassandra Faucett; former partners, Carol Ashford and Mamie Jones; and furbaby, Tucker. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and a tribe of extended family and friends.

William, you were loved by everyone and will be missed until we meet again in a place where you aren't in anymore pain.

We'd like to express our thankfulness to Hubbard Hospice House and their wonderful care until the end of William's life, as well as AA who supported him for 28 years.

A service will be held at at 1:00 p.m. on October 24, 2026, at The Father's House in North Charleston. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service.
