Obituary

Wilma Doris Schoolcraft Mangus, 89, of Dunbar, passed away peacefully on July 23 with her family by her side.

Doris was born in Roane County on April 10, 1929 to her parents Sinnett and Lila Wright Schoolcraft. She grew up on Johnson Creek and graduated with honors from Walton High School as president of the class of 1947. After graduation, she moved to Charleston and worked many years for McDonough Caperton Shepherd and Goldsmith Insurance Agency.

In 1954, Doris married James Clive Mangus and they were together for 55 years. During that time she played many roles and excelled in all of them. She was an unparalleled homemaker looking after her children and home while helping Clive build his new State Farm Insurance Agency and was a devoted caregiver to him in his declining years. Doris was a school volunteer and served for many years as a Girl Scout leader providing fun and education to many young girls. She was also a devoted member of Dunbar United Methodist Church and loved her Sunday school class and church family very dearly.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, James Clive Mangus , and brothers, Paul and Grant Schoolcraft.

Doris is survived by her children, Sarah Dupont (Steve) of Powell, Ohio and Bill Mangus (Kathi) of Hurricane; grandchildren, Grant (fiancé Brittany Flannigan) and Ellen Dupont both of Columbus, Ohio and Abigail and Lila Mangus both of Hurricane; sisters Mary Tatterson of Ashland, KY and Jane Cunningham of Marietta, Ohio. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews along with many dear friends.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27, at Dunbar United Methodist Church with Reverend Teresa Markins and Pastor John Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Dunbar United Methodist Church 1400 Myers Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064, or the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
