Obituary

It is with the heaviest hearts that we say goodbye to a remarkable woman whose love, laughter, and unwavering strength touched all who knew her.  Born on March 23, 1953, Wilma "Memaw" Lea Pile passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

Wilma was a woman of grace and resilience…a true beacon of light to whom her family and friends gravitated.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Evelyn Janet and William Rogers Wolfe, whose love and lessons shaped the incredible woman she became.

Though we mourn her passing, we find solace in knowing she is reunited with them—free of pain and embraced by love beyond this world.

Wilma leaves behind a devoted husband of 25 years, Thomas Pile; her beloved daughter, Eva Ditmer (Keith); and cherished grandchildren, Davy Crockett, Jr. (Mayarly), Samantha Ebbert (Matthew), Sydney Crockett (Joshua), Tre Crockett (Maddie), Aedan Crockett, and Olivia Ditmer—each of whom she adored beyond measure.  She also leaves six great-grandchildren, who brought her infinite joy and laughter.

Wilma was also deeply loved by her sisters, Susie Query, Teresa Wolfe ( Anetta), and Mary Beth Wolfe (Robert Garrett), whose bond with her was unbreakable… a beautiful testament to the love and strength of our family.

Wilma also has three nephews and countless cousins who she enjoyed hearing from and catching up with over the years.

A woman of determination, loyalty, and dedication, Wilma spent the majority of her career with the phone company, from the early days of "Ma Bell's" cord boards to her retirement from AT&T.  She then worked for the state until her retirement.

More than anything, Wilma had a gift for bringing people together.  Her home, nestled along the banks of the Kanawha River, was the setting for countless joyful gatherings.  With warmth and generosity, she hosted family and friends filling every occasion with love, laughter, delicious food, hand crafted decorations, and the kind of memories that will linger forever in the hearts of those lucky enough to know her.

She was phenomenal artist, able to create beauty out of any medium…from pastel chalk drawings to hand sewn clothing.  Whatever she set her mind to became a true work of heart, and she found so much joy in giving her creations to others.

She will be missed beyond measure and loved beyond words.

A very special thanks to everyone who cared for Wilma and continued to check in on her throughout her lengthy health battle.  The teams at WVU Thomas, Encompass, and Amedisys Home Health showed kindness and unwavering dedication which are beyond appreciated.  We would not have made it this far without her entire care team.

"Grief is the price we pay for love, and oh, what a beautiful love she gave us."
