Marvin Larry Smith, of Dunbar, went home to be with the Lord October 5, 2016 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

He was married for 66 years to his high school sweetheart, JoAnne Bird of Clendenin. Larry joined the Army and served in the Korean War as a Sergeant. He later went to work at Union Carbide, Institute where he was a Production Supervisor and Electrician.

Larry loved to hunt with his son, Mark and nephew Wesley Maddox. His favorite activity was going fishing every year at Amelia Island, Florida. After his retirement, Larry devoted himself to his grandchildren and to serving as Board member at Dunbar Mountain Mission church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rena and Albert Smith of Corton; three brothers; three sisters and son, David Larry Smith.

Marvin is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnne Smith; daughter, Sharon Roberts (Jeff Bayes); son Mark S. Smith, Sr. (Angela Smith); granddaughter , Mandi Roberts; grandson, Mark Steven Smith, Jr ; and granddaughter, Shannon Frame (Justin Frame); brothers, John Smith, Paul Smith and Gary Smith; and sister, Carolyn Wade.

He was a kind man to all, loved to fix things around the house, and loved the Lord with all his heart. He is sadly missed.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, October 10, at Dunbar Mountain Mission Church with the Reverend Ray Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens with military honors.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church.
